Back again. 4 countries, too many flights, countless buses, trains, tuk tuks, trucks and a good few boats too. It was a great trip, my wee sister is a dream to travel with, she just goes with the flow and follows my lead. Very slowly but thats what little sisters are for. We discovered that we have identical birthmarks on our right legs. We also discovered that she sweats more than anyone on this planet quite possibly. And we can tolerate each other pretty much 24/7 and not hate each other. Actually my sisters are the best friends i could ever wish for, all 3 of them are the bright shiny wonderful beings of my universe. So then my parents are the radiantly majestic sun and moon.
We explored beaches and national parks, temples and jungles. We wandered bright colourful towns, brilliant green rice terraces and long sandy beaches. We marvelled at tropical gardens, a monkey jumped on my head, we fed retired elephants bananas, we snorkelled and kayaked and swam in turquoise waters. We ate fresh tropical fruits, piles of gado gado with crispy tempeh, steaming hot thai curries that made our noses run and our tummies happy, insanely cheap Indian food and as much vegan ice cream as we could find. For 2 months we dined out everyday, did no washing up and lived like budget queens. Free to do what we wanted everyday. I almost forgot to worry sometimes. So now im back where i always end up. Like a boomerang, always returning to where i started. With a fading tan and a peeling nose. Without much money, no idea what to do and a feeling of unease and frustration. If i continue to end up here should i just stay? Can i stay? Where else do i go if not? Is there an answer for me? Same old story, never seems to change. But today is thanksgiving, which is not a holiday we celebrate here in Scotland but I like to mark it in my own way by being extra thankful for my life. I of course still made a feast, no holiday is complete with one; filo sage and mushroom tart, butternut squash pecan and cranberry salad plus red cabbage with orange and mustard dressing then a vegan spiced chocolate pumpkin pie to finish off. With a pastry giraffe on top because i love them. Always 100% vegan, palm oil free and cruelty free in honour and thanks to the earth and all the living beings on it. May we all be kinder to them and protect the incredible planet we live on before it literally is too late. I’m thankful for my family, for the animals, for the adventures i’ve been lucky enough to go on and for the freedom and privilege i live with everyday. I'm thankful for the life i have, i might not love every aspect of it but its mine and i'm so blessed to have it.
